A Touch of Holiday Baking

Since I’m home for the Thanksgiving holiday I decided today would be a good day for a little baking. Ever since we had our first South Dakota snowfall, I’ve been the the Christmas spirit. For me, this time of year means baking upon baking, decorating like crazy, buying gifts for all my loved ones, layered clothing, and of course the celebration of Jesus Christ’s birth. Baking just happens to be one of my favorite things to do even when I’m not in the holiday spirit, so everyday is a good day for baking. 🙂

Today I pulled out my Pinterest board of recipes and started to scroll. I love trying new recipes; desserts and what some call “real food”! I decided to attempt Pumpkin Cookies (supposedly they’re melt in your mouth good) and      Red Velvet Sugar Cookie Bars. Here are the links for the recipes:

Red Velvet Sugar Cookie Bars: http://therecipecritic.com/2014/01/red-velvet-sugar-cookie-bars-cream-cheese-frosting/

I started with the pumpkin cookies, the dough was a little soft and sticky but I assume that’s normal. The recipe says to bake for 10 minutes, but I had to cook mine at least 4 minutes longer. The inside was almost completely raw after 10 minutes. It’s hard to tell if they’re done, so I noticed that when they were more done the coloring was a dull orange, kind of tan color. After 10 minutes, they were more of a deep orange.

After my father’s critique, they get a thumbs up!

The red velvet bars were a little more challenging. The dough was sort of crumbing after I added all of the powdered ingredients. But I also didn’t use an once of food coloring, I use 1/2 once of gel coloring because that tends to be a lot more powerful than the normal coloring and the color turned out great! The frosting was also easy to make for this recipe, and it’s really good!

After my personal critique, these also get a thumbs up! They’re a little dry but that could be adjusted in the recipe.

Look for more upcoming holiday post! Happy Baking! 🙂

Fall Fashion

Since that South Dakota weather has finally given us some of those perfect fall days, I’ve decided to dedicate this post to all of the super adorable fall trends that I wish I had. Being the girl I am, I’ve searched through Pinterest and I have fallen in love with so many perfect autumn outfits. Finding clothes that are seen on Pinterest are almost impossible to find in the real world so you can purchase them (unless you’re lucky, I was once), and even if you do find them they’re usually expensive. But hey, a girl can dream.

Fall is the perfect season to break out the boots, sweaters, scarfs, and jeans. I, personally, love the “typical” fall outfit of riding boots, skinny jeans, a scarf, and sweaters. I think it looks comfy and stylish. Do I ever wear an outfit like that? Nope! I unfortunately can never find riding boots that fit right. But I can admire the girls that do rock that super cute outfit!

Another fabulous thing about fall is the JACKETS! Oh how I love jackets! Whether it’s just a casual Columbia, an army jacket, or a cool leather jacket, jackets are fashionable and do the job of keeping you warm enough! Plus, they’re great for layering (another great bonus of fall). They just add the perfect touch to an outfit! I’m a big fan of the army jackets (I don’t own one because I’m a poor college kid), and leather jackets are always a good go-to. I feel that they can work with a lot of different styles, and occasions.

Along with the jackets and jeans, comes boots! All kinds of adorable boots. I love the shorter boots, with little to know heal…I’m weird, I know. But riding boots are super cute as well! Boots, like jackets, can just add something to an outfit! Boots aren’t always the most comfortable, but beauty is pain 🙂

There are just so many great trends that come with fall, and luckily, some transfer to winter, so lucky us 🙂

Pinterest Fail

So my first attempt at making something off pinterest was a fail. My teeth whitening substance didn’t last long. I’m not sure if this was supposed to happen, but the next day when I went to brush my teeth, it was all bubbly and super liquidy. I used it any way and it kinda left a weird taste in my mouth. I decided to call it quits on that one. Maybe if one of you tries it, you’ll discover it works! Let me know if it does!

Pinterest Possibilities

FINALLY! I got to this series! I’m really excited to start this, I’ve been digging through Pinterest for awhile finding some cool things to try. Today I’m going to try a teeth whitening remedy. The link to the pin is here –> http://www.pinterest.com/pin/6333255700798143/

This particular one doesn’t require many things, I actually found everything in my house. All you need is toothpaste (I just used a travel tube), baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, and water (I forgot to put this in mine…oops).

You just put a little bit of toothpaste in a container, I just used a small Tupperware one. I wasn’t for sure how much to put in so I just guessed.

You then add 1 teaspoon of baking soda and then 1 teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide. This is also where you’re supposed to add the half teaspoon of water…I didn’t do that part.

I expected it to be a little thicker after I mixed it but I was almost the same consistency as glue.

Then you brush your teeth with it for 2 mins, and rinse. You’re supposed to do this everyday for a week and then you should see some results. I’ll post my official results when my week is up! Good Luck!
